Information for use in fact boxes to accompany Tahiti travel stories
Made up of 118 islands sprinkled across four million square kilometres, Tahiti and her islands are divided into five distinct archipelagoes, each with unique characteristics.
Such variety within the one destination means there is a Tahitian experience for everyone, with differing landscapes, activities and accommodation styles to suit all budgets and tastes.
Visitors can choose from some of the very best five-star experiences to be found anywhere to simple stays at thatched, family-owned and run fares, enjoying local fare and island culture.
Pristine beaches, sparkling lagoons and waving palm trees offer the perfect backdrop for relaxation, but mountainous hinterlands also beckon the more adventurous with activities including hiking, horse riding, 4 wheel-driving, bicycling and helicopter touring.
Plumb the depths of the lavatubes on Tahiti or indulge in the many activities in Tahiti’s clear azure waters, including snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing, game fishing, sailing, kayaking, windsurfing, kitesurfing and parasailing.
